F1 Announces New Academy to Develop Young Female Drivers Starting in 2023

03 Nov 2023

In a groundbreaking move for the world of motorsports, Formula 1 (F1) has officially unveiled its plans to establish a brand-new academy dedicated to nurturing young female driving talent. This initiative, set to kick off in 2023, marks a significant step towards achieving greater diversity and inclusion within the high-speed world of Formula 1. As the racing series gears up for the future, the F1 Female Driver Development Academy is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of female racing stars.

Aiming for Diversity and Inclusivity

Aiming for Diversity and Inclusivity

Formula 1 has long been seen as a male-dominated sport, with only a few female drivers breaking through its ranks. While the likes of Danica Patrick, Michele Mouton, and Lella Lombardi have made their mark in the past, there remains a dearth of female representation at the highest level of motorsports. F1's new academy is a clear indication of the sport's commitment to rectifying this imbalance and fostering an environment where talent knows no gender boundaries.

The academy's primary goal is to identify, support, and develop young female drivers from around the world, giving them the opportunity to showcase their skills and eventually compete at the highest levels of motorsport. F1 aims to create a more inclusive racing environment that reflects the diversity of the global fanbase, offering aspiring female drivers the chance to pursue their dreams and prove that they have what it takes to succeed on the track.

Mentoring and Support

Mentoring and Support

The F1 Female Driver Development Academy will provide a comprehensive support system to nurture young talents. The program will include mentorship from experienced drivers and team members, access to cutting-edge training facilities, and a dedicated curriculum that covers all aspects of professional racing, from technical knowledge to physical fitness and mental resilience. This comprehensive approach ensures that participants receive a well-rounded education in all aspects of motorsport.

Equal Opportunities

Equal Opportunities

One of the academy's most significant features is its commitment to ensuring that female drivers have equal opportunities to compete and succeed in the motorsport world. This means that they will have access to the same level of equipment, technology, and track time as their male counterparts. F1 is keen to stress that the academy is not about creating a separate category for female drivers but rather promoting diversity and equal representation in the existing field.

The launch of the F1 Female Driver Development Academy is an exciting and progressive step forward for Formula 1. It underscores the sport's commitment to embracing diversity and inclusivity, setting the stage for a more equitable future. As young female drivers are given the opportunity to develop their talents and prove their mettle on the track, we can look forward to a motorsport world that truly represents the diversity of its global audience. The inaugural year of this academy, 2023, promises to be a turning point for women in motorsport, with the potential to open doors and break down barriers for a new generation of racing talent.

Women in the UAE Trust Their Instincts When Selecting Performance Cars, Defying Stereotypes

A new survey conducted by Audi Abu Dhabi has revealed that seven in ten UAE residents believe that women are independent and confident in making their own decisions when buying and driving a performance car. The research, which explores general perceptions around women and performance cars, comes as Audi Abu Dhabi is geared to launch the new Audi RS3 Sedan and RS3 Sportback models.

While the survey results also showed lingering perceptions that women are less interested in performance cars (38%), have less knowledge of performance cars (39%), and are less skilled when it comes to driving them (37%), the findings interestingly showcased that the influence of external opinions holds little sway.
