The new Cayenne GTS: the highest levels of control and driving dynamics with a V8 engine

02 May 2024
  • How does the chassis and suspension design of the Cayenne GTS contribute to its superior cornering stability and driving dynamics?
  • What are the key improvements and performance specifications of the new Cayenne GTS 2024?
  • What are some distinctive design features that are consistent across all Porsche GTS models?
  • What are the standout features and customization options available in the latest Porsche Cayenne GTS 2024?

Porsche has strengthened its comprehensively updated Cayenne model range in 2023 with the launch of the new ultra-dynamic GTS models. The SUV and Coupé models of the Cayenne GTS combine a 368 kW (500 metric hp) twin-turbo V8 engine and high-performance chassis systems with distinctive design elements, enhanced basic equipment and versatility in everyday life.

The abbreviation GTS in Porsche cars stands for Gran Turismo Sport, which means more dynamism and superior capabilities during long trips. The Cayenne is designed to deliver superior levels of sporty performance on all types of roads. This balance that Porsche achieves in the GTS models tends to enhance the car’s capabilities on paved roads, thanks to the powerful drive system, precise chassis tuning, and exclusive, elegant design.

Exceptional levels of dynamism and control

The Cayenne GTS is based on the improved chassis of the GTS models, with the vehicle height lowered by 10 mm. The car is equipped with an adaptive air suspension system as standard, with Porsche Active Suspension Control and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus. The company also developed all chassis components and control systems, such as the Porsche Traction Control System and the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control System, specifically to provide optimal performance on the road.

The dual-valve damper technology in the Cayenne GTS provides exceptional response, while the two-chamber air suspension system gives the car very great dynamics while ensuring high levels of comfort for the driver and passengers at the same time. Porsche modified the main bearings of the front axle in the Cayenne GTS models to increase the negative angle of inclination of the wheels on the road by 0.58 degrees compared to other Cayenne models. The result: superior stability when crossing corners with the highest levels of control and driving dynamics.

Enhanced efficiency and increased vehicle power

Another important development in the new Cayenne GTS is the V8 engine, in addition to the improved chassis. The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, which is manufactured in Zuffenhausen, has undergone extensive development. The development process has achieved a significant improvement in efficiency and performance, as the engine now generates 368 kilowatts (500 metric horsepower), an increase of 30 kilowatts (40 metric horsepower) compared to the previous model, while the engine torque currently reaches 660 Newton metres. An increase of 40 Nm. The eight-speed Tiptronic S transmission has also been modified to significantly improve driving performance through faster response and reduced gear shift times in “Sport” and “Sport Plus” driving modes.

These updates contribute to enhancing the performance of the four-door sports car, as the new Cayenne GTS accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds, while its top speed reaches 275 km/h. Another technical innovation is the presence of an independent water cooling circuit for the transfer case of the Porsche Traction Control system in the four-wheel drive car. This technology was also inspired by the high-performance Turbo GT model, as it stabilizes traction capacity continuously, such as on a track or on mountain roads.

Exclusive design

Exclusive design

All Porsche GTS models feature a unique, sporty design that makes them easily recognizable at a glance. This design includes black “GTS” lettering on the sides and rear of the car, a special front fascia with larger cooling air intakes, and headlights. The background is dark, and the brake calipers are red. The company maintains this classic design that gives the car the well-known Porsche look, while adding some innovations. The basic Sport Design equipment package includes side sills, front trim, side window surrounds and wheel arch tips in high-gloss black, some of which were in the same body color as the previous GTS models. In contrast, the sports exhaust system pipes are painted in dark bronze, instead of black in previous models. To enhance the elegance of the design, the car is equipped with 21-inch RS Spyder wheels in Anthracite Gray.

The Cayenne GTS cabin includes a GT sports steering wheel with heating function as standard. Leather-like Race-Tex fabric was used in many equipment such as the roof lining, armrests and door upholstery, as well as the middle parts of the eight-way adjustable sports seats. In addition, the seat side bolsters have been further reinforced to provide more lateral support when cornering. For further customization, you can choose from additional Carmen Red and Slate New Gray colors for GTS models.

The new GTS models benefit from the latest comprehensive updates for the new generation of Cayenne, which include the new Porsche Driving Experience and the fully digital instrument cluster with a curved design as standard, with the option of equipping the car with a dedicated front passenger display. In addition to the Sport Design equipment package, dark HD Matrix LED headlights and air suspension, the Cayenne GTS also features an advanced Bose® audio system and ambient cabin lighting. The Cayenne GTS Coupé also comes equipped with a fixed panoramic glass roof as standard, in addition to an adaptive extendable rear spoiler. The dynamism of the Coupé model can be further enhanced by choosing to equip it with a sports exhaust system with dark bronze center pipes, which is available with three different lightweight sports packages. These kits also include a lightweight carbon roof and rear diffuser, with lighter insulation equipment. The lightweight packages can reduce the vehicle's weight by up to 25 kilograms depending on the equipment selected.

2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1: The Fastest, Most Powerful Corvette Ever

Chevrolet has unleashed the unthinkable in the Corvette ZR1. The King of the Hill returns with the most powerful V8 ever produced in America from an auto manufacturer, mind-bending specs, and iconic design to challenge the world’s best supercars in both coupe and convertible variants.

• Corvette ZR1 features a 5.5L, twin-turbocharged DOHC flat-plane crank V8 engine dubbed the LT7.

• The LT7 engine produces 1,064 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 828 lb-ft (1123 Nm) of torque at 6,000 rpm, per SAE guidelines — the most power ever from a factory Corvette and the most powerful V8 ever produced in America from an auto manufacturer.

• Corvette ZR1 boasts a GM-estimated top speed of over 215 mph (346 Kph) on the racetrack and will dispatch the quarter mile with a GM-estimated sub-10-second time1.

• Purposeful carbon fiber aero package creates over 1,200 pounds (544 Kg) of downforce at top speed.

• ZR1 revives one of the most iconic styles in Corvette history: the split rear window.

“The team that revolutionized Corvette with a mid-engine architecture took on another challenge: take ZR1 to the next level,” said Scott Bell, vice president, Chevrolet. “Corvette ZR1 is about pushing the envelope with raw power and cutting-edge innovation. From Stingray, to Z06, E-Ray, and now ZR1, the Corvette family continues to elevate with each new iteration — and challenge the best in the world.”

The Street-Legal Red Bull RB17 Hypercar

The automotive world is abuzz with the announcement that Lanzante, the renowned vehicle specialist known for transforming track-focused machines into road-going marvels, is set to convert the Red Bull RB17 hypercar into a street-legal version. This ambitious project aims to bring Adrian Newey’s V-10 beast from the racetrack to the public roads, and while the challenge is daunting, Lanzante's track record suggests they are up for it. The Red Bull RB17, designed by the legendary Adrian Newey, is a testament to cutting-edge engineering and performance. The track-only version of the hypercar weighs a mere 1,984 pounds, making it lighter than a Mazda MX-5 Miata ND. Yet, despite its featherweight design, it boasts a staggering 1,200 horsepower. This immense power allows it to lap Silverstone a second quicker than a Formula 1 car, according to recent simulations.
