A major GM leak just gave Corvette fans something big to get excited about. The iconic Grand Sport badge is making a comeback, and it looks like Chevrolet is not playing it safe this time. Instead of tweaking existing engines, GM might be dropping an all new V8 under the hood of the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport. With early estimates pointing to as much as 600 horsepower, this could be the perfect blend of performance and price in the current C8 lineup.
According to a leaked GM Parts Book, the upcoming Corvette Grand Sport will be powered by an all new LS6 engine. This V8 will reportedly displace 6.7 liters (409 cubic inches) and feature an aluminum block with both direct and port fuel injection. That’s a major departure from the 6.2 liter Stingray engine and the high revving flat plane crank in the Z06.
Not only does this signal a new performance direction, but it also promises a more classic V8 sound. A video leak (since deleted) hinted at a deep, throaty exhaust note that enthusiasts will love. This engine could become the sweet spot between traditional muscle and modern performance.
Chevrolet hasn’t confirmed final figures, but insiders expect the Grand Sport to produce between 550 and 600 horsepower. That would slot it perfectly between the Stingray (495 hp) and the hybrid E-Ray (655 hp), giving buyers a serious performance upgrade without going full Z06.
And if GM prices it right, it could dominate sales in the C8 lineup. The Stingray starts at around 70,000 USD and the E-Ray climbs past 108,000 USD. A Grand Sport priced between 85,000 and 100,000 USD would offer serious value for buyers wanting more power without the premium tag. This could easily make it the most popular Corvette variant yet.
