In September 2025, Al Futtaim Electric Mobility introduced the BYD Shark 6 to the UAE market. This plug in hybrid pick up is set to challenge the Toyota Hilux by bringing more technology, stronger performance, and a unique design to one of the most competitive automotive segments in the country.
The BYD Shark 6 takes inspiration from its name, combining a powerful stance with sleek elements. The front features vertically stacked LED headlights similar to those on the Ford F 150, a bold grille with the BYD logo, and a protective skid plate. The double cab design emphasizes muscle, supported by high ground clearance and wide arches.
The truck measures 5,457 mm in length, 1,971 mm in width, 1,925 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 3,260 mm. Its 282 mm ground clearance makes it ready for UAE desert driving, while the bed length of 1,520 mm ensures it remains practical for work and play.
Under the hood, the Shark 6 pairs a 1.5 liter turbo petrol engine with two electric motors and a 29.5 kWh battery pack. Together they deliver 430 hp, 650 Nm of torque, and a 0 to 100 kmh time of just 5.7 seconds. The all wheel drive setup ensures stability in both city and desert conditions. Range figures are also impressive, offering up to 100 km of pure EV driving and 840 km combined.
Inside, the Shark 6 focuses on tech and comfort. It offers a 10.25 inch digital cluster, 12 inch infotainment and heads up display, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, karaoke function, and even a moonroof. Safety is just as advanced, with 10 airbags, ISOFIX anchors, a 360 degree camera, and Level 2 ADAS.
So far, the BYD Shark has only gone on sale in Mexico with two trims, the GL and GS, priced around 196,000 AED and 211,000 AED. UAE prices will officially be revealed on 24 September 2025, when the truck makes its showroom debut. Early estimates suggest a starting figure close to 200,000 AED, which positions it above the Toyota Hilux GR variant priced at 170,000 AED in the UAE.
