Czinger 21C: The New Fastest Production Road Car at Goodwood

16 Jul 2024
  • What features and achievements make the Czinger 21C a standout in the hypercar segment?

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is renowned for showcasing the pinnacle of automotive engineering, where the world's fastest and most advanced vehicles compete to set new records. This year, the spotlight shines on the Czinger 21C, an American hybrid hypercar that has dethroned the previous record-holder, the Rimac Nevera, by a significant margin. At last year's festival, the Rimac Nevera, an electric hypercar, completed the iconic 1.16-mile hill climb in an impressive 49.32 seconds. However, this year, the Czinger 21C has rewritten the record books. Piloted by Chris Ward, the Czinger 21C conquered the course in just 48.83 seconds, outperforming the Rimac by nearly half a second.

The Engineering Marvel of Czinger 21C

The Engineering Marvel of Czinger 21C

The Czinger 21C is not just a car; it's a testament to cutting-edge technology and engineering. Designed and manufactured in California, this hybrid beast combines a 2.88-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine with two front-mounted electric motors. The result is a staggering total output of 1,250 horsepower. The engine is capable of revving up to 11,000 rpm, delivering an exhilarating driving experience that few cars can match.

Despite a minor collision with a haystack during its record-setting run, which left one of its side mirrors dangling, the Czinger 21C maintained its aerodynamic efficiency to secure its place in history. This small incident highlights the car's resilience and performance capabilities under challenging conditions.

The Czinger 21C is an incredibly exclusive vehicle, with only 80 units slated for production. This makes it even rarer than the Rimac Nevera, which will see 150 examples assembled. Czinger offers several variants of the 21C to cater to different performance preferences:

21C V Max: This variant can reach a top speed of 253 mph, compared to the regular 21C's 219 mph.

21C Blackbird: The highest-performance version of the 21C, the Blackbird boasts 1,350 horsepower and is limited to just four units. This track-focused derivative represents the pinnacle of Czinger's engineering prowess.

While the Czinger 21C holds the title of the fastest production road car at Goodwood, it is not the fastest car overall. That honor goes to the McMurtry Speirling, a single-seater electric vehicle. In 2022, former F1 driver Max Chilton drove the Speirling to an incredible time of 39.08 seconds, nearly 10 seconds faster than the Czinger 21C.

The Czinger 21C's achievement at the Goodwood Festival of Speed underscores America's growing prowess in the hypercar segment. With its blend of hybrid power, advanced engineering, and exclusivity, the Czinger 21C is a remarkable vehicle that has set a new benchmark for production road cars. As automotive technology continues to evolve, it will be fascinating to see how other manufacturers respond to Czinger's challenge in the quest for speed and performance.
