Genesis is officially breaking away from its Hyundai roots, and the move is more than just marketing. Starting next year, Genesis vehicles will be built on an all-new, brand-exclusive platform engineered to elevate the brand’s driving dynamics, flexibility, and premium feel. With support for hybrid, electric, and range-extended powertrains, this shift marks a major step toward competing head-on with established luxury giants.
Genesis started as a premium extension of Hyundai, but now the brand is making a clean break. According to Genesis Motor Europe’s Managing Director Peter Kronschnabl, the decision to develop a unique platform came down to one thing: delivering the performance and refinement expected from a true luxury brand.
This new architecture will reportedly support both hybrid and electric vehicles, offer more direct steering, and provide a suspension that balances firmness with comfort. More than just hardware, it signals a shift in Genesis’ strategy, one that leans into sportier driving dynamics, refined power delivery, and a high-end experience that feels distinct from its Hyundai origins.
While Genesis hasn’t confirmed which vehicles will ride on the new platform, insiders point to several possibilities. A high-performance sports car previewed by the Magma GT concept seems like a likely candidate, alongside updated versions of the GV60, GV70, and Electrified G80. The platform’s multi-energy flexibility also opens doors for range-extended hybrids and EVs, giving Genesis more global reach.
Even as the lineup grows, Kronschnabl confirmed Genesis won’t chase every niche. Instead, the brand plans to keep things simple and clear for buyers, focusing on key segments where it can compete with German rivals without diluting its identity. With plans to hit 350,000 global sales by 2030, Genesis is betting big on precision, not volume.
