Mitsubishi is stirring up excitement among SUV fans with a nostalgic new ad that might just confirm what off road lovers have been waiting for. A mysterious boxy SUV appears in the final scene, following a parade of legendary Dakar and WRC footage. While Mitsubishi hasn’t said it outright, all signs point to a bold revival of the Pajero name. The teaser is timed perfectly ahead of the Tokyo Auto Salon, and speculation is running wild across the auto world.
At the center of the hype is a shadowy SUV that shows up right after the iconic Dakar-winning Pajero crosses the desert. The vehicle’s upright stance, vertical LED accents, squared fenders, and boxy proportions instantly recall the legendary off roader. Spy shots from mid 2025 already caught this prototype during testing, and what we see in the ad matches closely.
The timing of the ad, the familiar proportions, and the emotional throwback to Pajero’s rally history all suggest a reboot is in the works. If it’s really coming, this will be the first all new Pajero since 2006 and the first time Mitsubishi returns to the rugged body on frame segment since the model’s discontinuation in 2021.
Before the mystery SUV appears, the ad delivers high energy clips of a Triton pickup tearing through rough terrain. That’s no regular truck. It’s the 2025 rally Triton, a full blown Ralliart special that conquered the Asia Cross Country Rally. With upgraded suspension, full off road livery, and a Dakar ready build, this model brings back memories of Mitsubishi’s motorsport prime.
The focus on the Triton could hint at more than nostalgia. Mitsubishi might be preparing a new Pajero Sport too, built on the latest Triton platform. That makes sense, since the current Pajero Sport dates back to 2015 and has already seen two facelifts. With the Triton updated recently, a next gen SUV version feels overdue.
So far, Mitsubishi hasn’t confirmed anything about a new Pajero or Pajero Sport. But the Tokyo Auto Salon is just around the corner, happening January 9 to 11. Many are predicting the teaser leads to a concept reveal or even a full debut at the show.
The teaser closes with a motivational message from Ralliart, calling for new adventures and hinting at future moves. Between the powerful visual cues and the brand’s messaging, one thing is clear. Mitsubishi is ready to return to its roots in rally and off road. Whether it’s the classic Pajero name or a fresh take, the comeback trail has already begun.
