Mercedes-Benz is raising the bar in the compact SUV world with the reveal of the next generation GLB. This new model keeps its signature boxy shape but adds a modern interior with a triple screen setup and more comfort for everyone. Mercedes is determined to stay ahead in the competitive small SUV segment by focusing on technology, flexible seating, and a touch of luxury.
The highlight of the new GLB is the triple screen layout, inspired by the latest CLA models. You get a digital instrument cluster and two large touchscreens, with the MBUX Superscreen available as an option for those who want the full high tech experience. Even base models include a digital driver display and a large center touchscreen, while higher trims let passengers control entertainment and comfort with their own dedicated screen.
Physical controls are still included for ease of use, and the floating center console gives the cabin a clean, futuristic vibe. Optional extras include a Burmester sound system and a head up display, making the GLB feel like a luxury lounge on wheels.
The GLB stands out by offering an optional third row, making it one of the few compact SUVs that can carry up to seven people. The sliding second row is standard on seven seat versions, and when you need more cargo space, the third row folds flat into the floor. The nearly flat roofline boosts headroom, and a larger interior brings noticeably more legroom for everyone, especially in the second row.
The panoramic glass roof comes standard, while an illuminated star pattern and adjustable opacity are available for those seeking a unique touch. Mercedes has not yet shared full technical details, but expect the GLB to offer a mix of hybrid and electric options similar to the CLA, with both front and all wheel drive available.
Although Mercedes has not released all the specs, the GLB is expected to mirror the new CLA’s powertrain lineup. This means buyers can look forward to a mild hybrid system with a turbocharged 1.5 liter engine, as well as both single and dual motor EV variants. The gasoline model uses an eight speed dual clutch transmission and can be had with front wheel drive or all wheel drive.
Looking ahead, Mercedes plans to refresh more of its compact lineup, including a new GLA and a smaller G Class. While the A Class will get a successor, there are no plans for a new B Class minivan.
