Zhengzhou Nissan, the Chinese joint venture between Dongfeng and Nissan, has quietly introduced a compelling new hybrid pickup truck under its Z9 lineup. The new GE PHEV plug in hybrid model arrives with bold tech features, competitive power, and an aggressive price tag that could shake up global markets, especially in the US. Positioned as an electric alternative to the traditional Nissan Frontier, this hybrid truck may be exactly what value focused drivers have been waiting for.
Despite its low starting price of about 21,800 USD, the Z9 GE PHEV doesn’t hold back on technology. The entry trim already includes a 12.8 inch infotainment screen and a 10.25 inch digital instrument cluster. Higher trims take things up a notch with a massive 14.6 inch touchscreen and luxurious Nappa leather seats equipped with heating, cooling, and even massage functionality.
For audio lovers, the truck includes a 12 speaker premium sound system, while drivers benefit from four ultrasonic radars and four HD cameras that deliver Level 2 driver assistance. One standout feature is the under hood transparent camera view, offering a clear visual of the road surface right beneath the front end, a premium feature typically reserved for higher end trucks.
The Z9 GE PHEV is built on a double cab platform with a 5,494 millimeter length, 3,300 millimeter wheelbase, and a 1,520 millimeter long cargo bed. It uses a hybrid system combining a 1.5 liter turbocharged gasoline engine with a single electric motor, delivering a total output of 322 horsepower in the base model. The high spec version reaches a punchy 429 horsepower and delivers up to 800 newton meters of torque.
Battery options include a 17 kilowatt hour pack offering 60 kilometers of electric range and a larger 32.85 kilowatt hour battery that stretches the EV range to 135 kilometers. With pricing topping out at just 30,500 USD for the highest trim, this pickup undercuts many traditional rivals in the US market, especially considering its electrified setup and high end specs.
