Perfection Is a Maserati MC20 With the MC12's Livery

  • How does the MC20 Leggenda's design differ from the MC20 Icona's?

Twenty years ago, Maserati made a grand return to motorsports with the MC12, a move that ended nearly four decades of absence from the racing scene. To celebrate this milestone, Maserati has unveiled two special edition models of the MC20: the MC20 Icona and the MC20 Leggenda. These models pay homage to the legendary MC12 with distinctive appearance packages that are as striking as they are nostalgic. The MC20 Icona stands out with its iconic two-tone white and blue paint, drawing direct inspiration from the MC12 Stradale. The color scheme, specifically Bianco Audace Matte with Blue Stradale, gives the car a bold and classic look reminiscent of its racing predecessor. This combination not only highlights the MC20’s sleek design but also evokes the spirit of the MC12's glorious past on the racetrack.

In contrast, the MC20 Leggenda adopts a more modern and edgy aesthetic, borrowing its look from the MC12 GT1 Vitaphone. The predominant black, Nero Essenza, with contrasting Digital Mint Matte across the top, creates a sharp and distinctive appearance. This livery gives the Leggenda a contemporary and aggressive stance, embodying the essence of a modern-day racing beast.

Maserati enhances these special MC20s with various trim upgrades through their Fuoriserie Personalization Program. The Icona features white Maserati Fuoriserie logos near the rear wheels and an Italian flag motif on the fenders, adding a touch of national pride and bespoke detailing. The wheels are adorned with blue Tridents on the center caps, and the brake calipers match in blue, ensuring the theme is consistent throughout. Under the hood, a carbon fiber engine cover conceals the powerful twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine.

The MC20 Leggenda, on the other hand, rides on black wheels with mint-colored Tridents on the center caps, complemented by mint Fuoriserie logos down low. Yellow Trident and MC20 badging stand out higher up, adding a splash of vibrant color. Black brake calipers hide discreetly behind the wheels, maintaining the car's sleek and stealthy look. It also boasts a carbon fiber engine cover, similar to the Icona.

Inside, both MC20 models feature black four-way monocoque racing seats, with the Leggenda’s seats highlighted by silver contrast stitching and the Icona’s by blue. These details provide a racing-inspired interior that complements the exterior’s sporty appearance. Despite these unique touches, the mechanical components remain standard-issue MC20, which is far from ordinary.

Powered by the Nettuno V-6 engine, both the Icona and Leggenda produce an impressive 621 horsepower. Weighing in at just 3,300 pounds, these cars can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in a breathtaking 2.9 seconds, showcasing the perfect blend of power and agility that Maserati is known for.

In summary, the MC20 Icona and Leggenda are more than just special edition cars; they are a testament to Maserati’s legacy and a celebration of its racing history. With their distinctive liveries, personalized touches, and extraordinary performance, these models represent the pinnacle of automotive perfection, paying homage to the past while looking boldly to the future.
