The Porsche 911 Dakar made a bold statement when it debuted, merging the legendary performance of the 911 with off-road capabilities. However, with production limited to just 2,500 units, its time on the market was short-lived. Now, a new report suggests that Porsche isn’t finished with the Dakar yet. A new hybrid-powered Dakar could arrive before the year’s end, bringing more power and efficiency to the off-road-ready 911.
The upcoming 911 Dakar is expected to feature Porsche’s new T-Hybrid powertrain, first introduced in the 2025 911 GTS. This system combines a 3.6-liter turbocharged flat-six engine with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and a traction motor integrated between them.
With 532 horsepower and 610 Nm of torque, this setup outperforms the previous Dakar model, which relied on a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six with 475 hp. The added power should improve acceleration, bringing it closer to the new 911 GTS, which can reach 100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds—a noticeable improvement from the previous Dakar’s 3.4-second sprint.
While specific suspension and chassis upgrades remain unknown, the new Dakar will likely retain the high-riding stance and reinforced bodywork that made the original model so distinctive. Porsche has been testing hybrid powertrains in its Weissach engineering center, where the new Dakar is reportedly under development.
The T-Hybrid system is designed not just for performance but also for efficiency, offering better response and improved torque delivery. Given the Dakar’s off-road capabilities, the hybrid setup could enhance low-end traction, making it even more capable on challenging terrains.
Porsche has not officially confirmed the new Dakar, with a spokesperson declining to comment on speculation. However, industry sources suggest the new model could debut by the end of the year. Porsche’s CEO previously hinted at expanding the off-road 911 lineup, suggesting strong demand could lead to additional rugged 911 variants in the future.
If the rumors hold true, the new 911 Dakar could push the limits of what an off-road-ready sports car can achieve, blending electrified performance with Porsche’s rally heritage. For now, enthusiasts will have to wait and see what Porsche has in store for the return of the Dakar legend.
