Porsche Explores a New Gas Powered SUV as the Macan Bows Out

12 Mar 2025
  • Could Porsche introduce another combustion-powered SUV?

Since its debut in 2014, the Porsche Macan has been a best-seller, with over 800,000 units sold. However, its days are numbered. The gas-powered Macan will be discontinued globally by 2026, following its recent exit from the European market due to new cybersecurity regulations. Despite past speculation that Porsche might continue offering an internal combustion version, the company has now confirmed that the Macan will only be available as an EV moving forward.

A New Gas SUV in the Works?

While the gasoline Macan is gone for good, Porsche isn't completely walking away from internal combustion. The company has revealed that it is evaluating an all-new SUV model line that will feature both gasoline and hybrid powertrains. This vehicle would be entirely separate from the Macan and is unlikely to arrive before 2030.

Porsche has provided few details, but the new SUV is expected to feature a fresh design while retaining the brand’s signature styling elements. The company also hinted that it could share components with other Volkswagen Group models, possibly utilizing the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) that underpins the latest Audi Q5.

Meanwhile, Porsche is continuing its shift toward electrification. The electric Cayenne is on the way, and a larger three-row EV SUV is in development. As Porsche balances combustion, hybrid, and electric models, the next few years will be pivotal in shaping the brand’s SUV lineup.
