Red Bull RB17 Unleashed as a Wild Track-Only Hypercar With 1200 Horsepower

04 Jan 2026
  • How is the production design different from the prototype?
  • What engine does the Red Bull RB17 use?
  • How many Red Bull RB17 cars will be made?

When Red Bull promised its own hypercar, few expected something this wild. The RB17 is finally revealed in its production form, and it looks even more extreme than the original concept. Inspired by Formula 1 and built purely for the track, this machine isn’t here to compromise. With just 50 units planned and a powertrain that blends a naturally aspirated V10 with a high voltage electric boost, the RB17 aims to set a new benchmark for what a race bred hypercar can be.

Design Evolution

The final version of the RB17 looks more focused and aggressive than the prototype shown back in 2024. Its front end is sculpted for aerodynamic efficiency, with razor thin LED lights and a carbon fiber body that manages airflow like a wind tunnel was carved into the chassis. On the sides, deep aero channels help cool the rear, while a roof scoop directly feeds the V10 engine.

The centerline fin and massive rear wing are straight out of Le Mans prototypes. Every surface has a reason to exist. Even the mirrors and windshield wiper make it feel closer to a real car, though it’s definitely not street legal. Inside, there’s no infotainment system or touchscreens. The cabin is pure race car, filled with physical buttons and built for one purpose: lap time domination.

Powertrain and Performance

Powertrain and Performance

At the heart of the RB17 is a screaming 4.5 liter naturally aspirated V10 developed with Cosworth. It revs up to 15000 rpm and makes about 1000 horsepower on its own. Add in the electric motor and total output jumps to 1200 horsepower. The electric part doesn’t just add power, it also replaces the need for a reverse gear, mimicking Formula 1’s clever packaging.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6 speed sequential gearbox paired with an active limited slip differential. The hybrid system is compact, track optimized, and only exists to make the RB17 faster, not friendlier.

Exclusivity and Production

Exclusivity and Production

Only 50 units of the RB17 will ever be produced. While Red Bull hasn’t officially announced pricing, insiders expect each one to easily cost in the millions. Testing is currently in the final stages, with production scheduled to begin soon.

This is not a car meant for the masses. It’s a celebration of what Formula 1 engineering can look like without the restrictions of a racing rulebook. The RB17 exists for one reason only, to be the fastest, purest track weapon Red Bull Racing could possibly create.
