In a special episode of The Drive Experience on Motor283, we set out on a five-day, 2300 km road trip from AlUla in Saudi Arabia to Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the UAE, behind the wheel of the all-new Audi SQ5 2026. This wasn't just a drive. It was a journey through history, nature, and cutting-edge automotive technology.
We kicked off our journey in the stunning city of AlUla, a rising tourism hub known for its massive rock formations, ancient heritage, and luxury festivals. From the red mountain ranges to iconic landmarks like the Elephant Rock and Maraya Mirror Hall, AlUla offers a magical backdrop to begin any long adventure.
Our time here wasn’t just scenic. It felt like traveling through time. AlUla’s history stretches back over 200,000 years, and its role as a meeting point for ancient trade routes made it the ideal launch pad for our Trail of Mirage.
The Audi SQ5 proved itself to be the perfect companion for long-distance luxury travel. Powered by a turbocharged V6 engine delivering 367 hp and 550 Nm of torque, it offered silky acceleration and comfort in equal measure. The quattro suspension handled rough terrain with ease, while features like massage seats and cooled cushions turned tough roads into smooth rides.
Inside, we explored the latest in Audi’s digital cockpit tech. Passengers could view maps, adjust music, or even activate a massage from their own screen. This level of tech and refinement made every kilometer enjoyable.
We stopped in Hail and Buraidah before heading to the ancient village of Ushayqer, over 1,500 years old. Once a major waypoint on pilgrimage routes, Ushayqer dazzled with restored mudbrick homes, handcrafted wooden doors, and red mountain views that inspired its name.
In Riyadh, the capital greeted us with luxury. Our stay at the SEDRA Riyadh Collection Hotel was pure five-star comfort. Audi didn’t hold back, showing just how premium the SQ5 lifestyle can be when paired with Saudi hospitality.
On the fourth day, we passed through Al Ahsa, then crossed into the UAE. The drive brought us to Sir Bani Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, a stunning nature escape where Audi surprised us with a special summit experience to mark the final leg of the journey.
After five days on the road, we finally arrived in Dubai, wrapping up 2300 kilometers with a stop at the Audi Al Nabooda showroom. The SQ5 had done it all: desert highways, mountain passes, historic towns, and modern cities.
