  • How do the aerodynamic modifications and upgraded suspension system of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Time Attack Spec contribute to its performance?
  • What are the specifications of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Pikes Peak Car?

Hyundai is making waves in the world of electric vehicle (EV) motorsport with its latest announcement: a souped-up, high-performance version of the Ioniq 5 N set to compete in the iconic Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The South Korean automaker will field four Ioniq 5 Ns at this year's event, two of which will be nearly showroom stock, while the other two will be enhanced Time Attack (TA) Spec versions. These upgrades are aimed at securing the modified electric SUV/Crossover record.

Enhanced Aerodynamics and Performance

Enhanced Aerodynamics and Performance

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Time Attack Spec stands out with its aggressive aerodynamic modifications. The car features a massive spoiler, side sills, and fender flares, all designed to maximize downforce and stability during the challenging hill climb. Additionally, 18-inch forged wheels wrapped in Yokohama slicks are nestled under the arches, supported by a robust braking system with six-piston calipers at the front and four-piston calipers at the rear.

The suspension system has been significantly upgraded with three-way adjustable dampers, allowing for fine-tuning of ride height and camber. These enhancements ensure that the TA Spec version can handle the demanding Pikes Peak course with precision and agility.

Power Boost

Power Boost

Powering the Ioniq 5 N TA Spec is a retuned EV powertrain, which now delivers an impressive 678 horsepower, thanks to an additional 37 hp from the rear motor in full overboost mode. Remarkably, these powertrain components are still production items found in the standard Ioniq 5 N, highlighting Hyundai's engineering prowess. While there's no confirmation yet on whether a production version of the TA Spec will be available, the potential for such a model is intriguing.

One of the most striking features of the Ioniq 5 N TA Spec is its enhanced external sound system. Equipped with speakers capable of producing 120 decibels, the car emits tones through Hyundai's N Active Sound+ system. This isn't just for show; it's a crucial safety measure, ensuring the otherwise quiet EV is heard during the race. Hyundai also notes that the engine sounds will enhance driver feedback, creating a more immersive and responsive driving experience.

In addition to the two race-prepped models, Hyundai will also campaign two production-spec Ioniq 5 Ns. These vehicles aim to set a production EV record at Pikes Peak. The only modifications from the standard showroom model are safety-related, including roll cages and necessary competition gear. This approach underscores Hyundai's confidence in the inherent performance capabilities of the Ioniq 5 N.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Time Attack Spec is more than just a powerful electric vehicle; it's a testament to Hyundai's innovative spirit and dedication to motorsport excellence. With its enhanced aerodynamics, increased horsepower, and immersive sound system, the Ioniq 5 N TA Spec is poised to make a significant impact at this year's Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Whether on the track or in the virtual world of Gran Turismo, Hyundai is charging ahead into the future of motorsport.

Aston Martin Vantage GT3 chasing glory as FIA World Endurance Championship returns to COTA

Aston Martin makes a racing return to the Circuit of the Americas [COTA] and the Lone Star Le Mans 6 hours race – scene of extraordinary success for Vantage in the FIA World Endurance Championship [WEC] – as the newest Vantage GT3 prepares to take its Texas bow in the hands of partner teams The Heart of Racing [THoR] and D’station Racing, this weekend.

No other manufacturer boasts such a tremendous victory tally at the Austin venue, which returns to the WEC calendar for the first time since 2020 when Aston Martin also recorded a double-class victory. Indeed, the British ultraluxury sportscar brand has achieved no less than nine GT class wins in the six events COTA has staged since the series was formed in 2012. That’s a 75% win ratio, and four of those triumphs were double-class victories.
