Hidden away for decades, a 1972 Alfa Romeo Montreal has surfaced in Astoria, Oregon, catching the attention of classic car fans. With less than 4000 units ever made and a design by the same legend behind the Lamborghini Miura, this Italian beauty could be the rare opportunity collectors have been waiting for.
This Montreal isn’t just a vintage Alfa, it’s a true barn find. Originally launched in 1970 at the Geneva Motor Show, the Montreal was designed by Marcello Gandini and features a 2.6 liter V8 engine with dual overhead cams. It delivered 200 horsepower through a 5 speed manual gearbox, which was quite impressive in its time.
The example found in Oregon is mostly intact. The engine has already been rebuilt, the interior is in surprisingly good shape, and while the body shows some paint and trim flaws, the originality is mostly preserved.
Classic car collectors are always hunting for undervalued gems, and the Montreal may be one of them. With a current price tag of 60000 dollars listed on Craigslist, this rare coupe offers a mix of collectible rarity and Italian heritage.
Given that most Montreals in better cosmetic condition easily go for much more, this car could be a great entry point into classic Alfa ownership. With some restoration, it can be a showpiece or a weekend driver with real appreciation potential.
Only around 3900 units were produced between 1970 and 1977.
