Unveiled at the SEMA 2024 show, Ringbrothers, renowned for their groundbreaking car modifications, revealed their latest masterpiece: the Buick Regal Grand National 1987 Restomod, dubbed the "Invader." This is not merely a reimagining of a classic; it's a powerhouse boasting 1,246 horsepower, setting a new standard for modern muscle cars.
At the heart of the Invader lies a 3.8L twin-turbo V6 engine, modified by Duttweiler Performance, a specialist in high-performance engines. This beast delivers an astonishing 1,246 horsepower and 1,000 lb-ft of torque at 32 PSI of turbo boost. Even more impressively, it can produce up to 2,000 horsepower with a turbo boost of 50 PSI.
Power is channeled through a Tremec T56 six-speed manual transmission to a custom Ford rear axle, offering an exhilarating driving experience. Built on a bespoke chassis by Roadster Shop, the car is designed to handle its immense power. Adjustable Penske triple-adjustable shocks enhance handling, while Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires on HRE wheels provide optimal grip.
To match its speed with reliable stopping power, the Invader is equipped with carbon-ceramic brakes sourced from the C6 Corvette ZR1.
The Invader retains the classic spirit of the Grand National while incorporating modern upgrades for enhanced appeal. Custom stainless-steel front and rear bumpers, along with carbon-fiber accents on the hood scoop and rear wing, elevate its aesthetics. The car is painted in Dark Vader Gray, a nod to the original Grand National's iconic black finish.
Inside, the Invader blends luxury with race-inspired functionality. The cabin features a full carbon-fiber interior, reinforced with a roll cage for added rigidity. A unique touch is the inclusion of a parachute release button, highlighting the car’s readiness for high-speed runs.
Other practical upgrades include advanced gauges and a modern infotainment system, ensuring a harmonious balance between classic charm and modern convenience.
The Buick Grand National 1987 was already a trailblazer for proving the potential of turbocharged V6 engines against traditional V8s. With the Invader, Ringbrothers honor this legacy while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in restomods.
Spending over 4,900 hours crafting this masterpiece, Ringbrothers have once again showcased their ability to merge art and engineering. The Invader is not just a showpiece; it’s a testament to innovation, classic car appreciation, and the enduring appeal of modern muscle cars. Whether on the road or the track, this car redefines what it means to be a muscle car icon.
