At first glance, this 2007 Range Rover Vogue looks like any other used British SUV, but look closer and you’ll find a royal story hiding under its Tonga Green paint. This L322-generation diesel V8 Range Rover wasn’t just any off roader, it once belonged to Queen Elizabeth II herself. Now, it’s headed to auction with a royal pedigree, a connection to Jeremy Clarkson’s famous SUV, and more than a few surprising details inside.
Land Rover supplied many SUVs to the late Queen, but this example is one of a kind. It’s believed to be the only L322 Range Rover finished in Tonga Green with a 3.6 liter turbo diesel V8 that Her Majesty personally owned. Unlike the more common petrol units used for state duties, this diesel-powered model came with a dog guard for her beloved corgis and unique grab handles for easier rear seat access.
It was prepared by Land Rover Special Vehicles under a royal contract and even carries SVO documentation to prove its origins. Its royal past was confirmed through photos of Queen Elizabeth behind the wheel at the Royal Windsor Horse Show, complete with matching outfit, seat piping, and trim that match the interior exactly. A period correct dog mascot now adorns the hood again, just like in the original photographs.
Here’s where the story gets even more fascinating. This SUV shares a production date with Jeremy Clarkson’s own Range Rover, famously featured in Clarkson’s Farm. Their chassis numbers are just 10 units apart and the registration plates differ by only two letters. That makes this SUV a true sibling to one of the most iconic celebrity vehicles on screen.
But after its royal service, the vehicle disappeared into private hands and even endured a minor insurance claim. Its true identity was forgotten until the current owner spotted SVO service stamps in the booklet and started digging. What was once a neglected tow car quickly became a restoration project with a mission. The original entertainment system, phone, and even the headphones were tracked down and reinstalled.
