Few classic Volvos carry the same charm as the P1800ES shooting brake. Built for only a short period in the early 1970s, it became a cult favorite thanks to its clean lines and unmistakable glass rear. Now Dutch restomod specialist Autoforma has brought the icon back to life with a modern twist. The result is a handcrafted build that blends classic Scandinavian character with serious performance and luxury upgrades for 2026.
Autoforma transforms the classic P1800ES into something far more aggressive and refined without losing its soul. Under the hood sits Volvo’s turbocharged T5 five cylinder engine, paired with a revised transmission and improved braking system with enhanced cooling. The company also sharpens the steering ratio and reworks the chassis geometry, giving the car a wider stance and more confident handling.
Visually, the restomod stands out immediately. Buyers can choose from anthracite, silver, or chrome brightwork for the bumpers, while the grille and front fascia receive detailed updates. Carbon fiber wheel arch extensions, a front chin spoiler, and an integrated roof spoiler add a sporty edge. LED lighting comes standard front and rear, and forged wheels are available in two designs. An optional roof rack and a wide range of custom paint finishes give owners room to personalize their build.
Inside, Autoforma redesigns the dashboard, seats, and door panels while adding a new center console that extends toward the rear. The brand even offers custom fitted luggage to match the chosen interior, turning the P1800ES into a true lifestyle machine.
Autoforma offers the revived P1800ES in three distinct trims, each targeting a different type of enthusiast. The Forward Fashionista is the boldest and most extreme version. It comes with the widest stance, the most expressive color palette, and the most aggressive visual upgrades. This is the version for collectors who want attention wherever they park.
The Heritage Heaven trim stays closer to the original design language. It focuses on period correct colors and materials while upgrading mechanical components for improved reliability. This option is ideal for purists who want classic style with modern dependability.
The Modern Marvel trim pushes modernization further, offering advanced lighting options, upgraded suspension tuning, and a broader selection of contemporary finishes. It strikes a balance between nostalgia and current technology.
Autoforma plans to build only five examples per year, with pricing starting around 300,000 euros. That exclusivity makes the P1800ES restomod not just a car, but a collector level statement.
