Toyota has taken its legendary Hilux pickup into the future with the reveal of the ninth generation model, combining bold new looks, advanced cabin tech, and more powertrain choices than ever. From traditional petrol and diesel to a fully electric BEV and a hydrogen version on the way, the new Hilux is designed to meet the needs of every driver, whether on city streets or rugged trails.
The ninth generation Hilux moves to Toyota’s updated IMV platform, keeping its tough DNA but adding a sharper exterior with LED lighting, modern bumpers, and a choice of unique grilles for each version. At launch, only a dual cab body is available, making this Hilux more lifestyle friendly than ever.
The big news is electrification. For the first time, the Hilux lineup includes a fully electric BEV, powered by a 59.2 kilowatt hour battery and front and rear eAxles for permanent all wheel drive. This setup offers up to 144 kilowatts of power, strong torque, and a real world range of about 240 kilometers. Payload is rated at 715 kilograms, with a towing capacity of 1,600 kilograms and a wading depth matching the diesel version.
Traditional engines are not forgotten. The 2.7 liter petrol and 2.8 liter diesel continue, with the diesel getting a mild hybrid system for smoother and more efficient driving. There is also a hydrogen fuel cell variant coming to select markets in 2028, showing Toyota’s multi path plan to keep every region and customer covered.
Inside, the new Hilux steps up its game with dual 12.3 inch digital displays, a redesigned steering wheel, and a cabin loaded with tech like wireless charging, ventilated seats, blind spot monitoring, and full smartphone integration. Toyota’s latest Safety Sense 3 brings new driver assist systems including lane keeping, proactive driving assist, emergency stop, and enhanced collision detection.
Off road performance remains a priority, with retuned suspension, electric power steering, and the Multi Terrain Select system that lets drivers adapt to sand, mud, or rocks at the touch of a button. Cameras and monitors help keep visibility clear both on and off road.
As for the UAE, buyers can already get the 2025 ICE Hilux, but the brand new ninth generation models, especially the electric and hybrid versions, are set to launch in the UAE by late 2026. Built in Thailand and developed with Australian input, this Hilux is ready to keep its spot as the king of pickups for the next decade, offering more choice, smarter tech, and the same durability that made it famous.
