Geely is expanding its lineup in the UAE with the launch of the new EX5 EM-i plug-in hybrid SUV, offering buyers the flexibility of electric driving with the convenience of a petrol backup. Priced from just AED 89,900, this tech-focused hybrid is designed for families, daily commuters, and budget-conscious drivers who want electric performance without range anxiety.
The Geely EX5 EM-i is powered by a 1.5-liter petrol engine paired with the brand’s EM-i super hybrid system. Together, they deliver a solid 317 horsepower and 262 Nm to the front wheels, reaching 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.2 seconds. The SUV offers up to 170 km of pure electric driving (NEDC) and a total range of 1,065 km with a full tank and full battery. This makes it ideal for city driving while still being road-trip ready.
It runs without a traditional gearbox, using an 11-in-1 electric drive unit for smooth, quiet transitions between power sources. Drive modes include EV-only, hybrid, and a power setting for more responsive driving. The EX5 EM-i’s value becomes even clearer when you look at the price. Starting at AED 89,900, it stands out as one of the most affordable plug-in hybrids in the market, competing with options like the BYD Song Plus DM-i, Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, and MG RX5.
On the outside, the EX5 EM-i adopts clean styling, a closed front grille, LED lighting, and aerodynamic 19-inch wheels. It is built on Geely’s GEA electric platform, measuring 4,740 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2,755 mm, and offers 520 liters of cargo space.
Inside, the cabin feels like a lounge, featuring ventilated front seats, soft-touch finishes, and over 30 storage areas. The wide dash houses a 15.4-inch touchscreen and a bright 13.8-inch head-up display. Other highlights include Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charging, and a 16-speaker Flyme audio system with headrest speakers.
Tech extends to safety as well, with level 2 driver assistance and 16 ADAS features, including a 540-degree camera with underbody view. The SUV also comes with full airbag protection, reinforced battery and fuel safety systems, and remote vehicle control via smartphone app.
