Longbow Aims to Revolutionize Lightweight EVs with Two New Sports Cars

  • What makes the Longbow Speedster and Roadster special?
  • How much will these lightweight EVs cost?

A new player in the electric vehicle (EV) market is making waves with an ambitious goal—creating two ultra-lightweight electric sports cars. Meet the Longbow Speedster and Roadster, two "featherweight" EVs set to debut in the UK by 2026. At a time when EVs are getting heavier due to large battery packs, Longbow wants to bring back the thrill of lightweight performance cars, all while keeping things fully electric.

Unlike the heavyweight trend in modern EVs, Longbow is aiming for agility. The Speedster is projected to weigh just 1,973 lbs (895 kg), while the Roadster will come in slightly heavier. Though these numbers are higher than a classic Lotus Elise, they are still significantly lighter than most contemporary electric sports cars.

To achieve this, Longbow is developing a lightweight aluminum chassis and compact electric motors, prioritizing driving dynamics over excessive battery capacity. Despite their low weight, both models will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in under four seconds and deliver an estimated 440 km range based on the WLTP standard.

Exclusive, Hand-Built, and Expensive

Longbow's sports cars will be far from cheap. The Speedster will start at ₤84,995, while the Roadster will be slightly more affordable at ₤64,995. That translates to around $85,000 to $110,000, putting them in competition with high-end performance EVs. Adding to their exclusivity, Longbow plans to hand-build only 150 units of each model.

Though details on the powertrain remain scarce, the project is backed by automotive veterans with experience at Tesla, Lucid, and Lotus. Longbow’s vision is clear: create a lightweight, driver-focused electric sports car that challenges the status quo. Whether the company can deliver on this ambitious promise remains to be seen, but if successful, the Speedster and Roadster could redefine what an electric sports car should be.
