Sharp LDK Plus Debuts as Japan’s Smartest Electric Van with AI Powered Home Control

  • Why does Sharp’s LDK Plus look like a regular minivan in Japan?
  • How does the Sharp LDK Plus connect to your smart home in Japan?

Sharp, the name behind some of the world’s most advanced TVs and home appliances, is now taking a bold turn into the automotive world. Revealed at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, the Sharp LDK Plus is not just another electric vehicle. It’s a fully connected minivan built to act like a smart extension of your living room, complete with AI, smart home control, and lounge-like interiors. Let’s explore what makes this electric van a potential game changer for the Japanese market.

Traditional Body, Futuristic Tech

Traditional Body, Futuristic Tech

Instead of chasing futuristic concept shapes, Sharp went with a design that looks nearly production ready. The LDK Plus has the silhouette of a classic minivan, with sliding doors, regular mirrors, and physical door handles that scream practicality. Up front, a glowing Sharp logo runs across a full width LED light bar, giving it a modern yet grounded personality.

Inside, the layout mimics a home living space. A flat floor, rotating seats, and a folding table turn the cabin into a mobile office or chill zone. Sharp replaced the massive 65 inch screen from earlier concepts with a retractable display, adding ambient lighting that creates a cozy vibe. Everything in this van is designed to feel familiar and comfortable, like an extension of your own home.

AI Connectivity Meets Everyday Life

AI Connectivity Meets Everyday Life

The real magic of the Sharp LDK Plus lies in its AIoT system (Artificial Intelligence of Things). This tech links your vehicle to household devices like air conditioners, washing machines, and even solar power systems. It’s not just about remote control, though. The onboard AI learns the driver's habits and adjusts the environment accordingly.

This system also features V2H (vehicle to home) support, meaning the LDK Plus can power your home during outages or emergencies. Built on the Foxconn Model A platform, the van shares the same solid EV architecture as Foxconn’s own upcoming vehicles, expected in Japan by 2027. While full specs aren’t out yet, leaks suggest over 300 kilometers of range in just 20 minutes of charging thanks to high density battery tech.

By connecting mobility to home comfort, Sharp is reshaping what a car can be. With the LDK Plus, driving becomes part of the smart home lifestyle.
