Toyota Highlander 2027 Goes Fully Electric With Three Row Power and Style

12 Feb 2026
  • What range and power options does the 2027 Toyota Highlander EV offer?
  • What new tech and features does the Highlander EV bring inside?

Toyota is making a bold move with the all new Highlander 2027. For the first time ever, this family favorite SUV is ditching gas and hybrid options to go fully electric. With three rows of seating, futuristic tech, and strong range options, the Highlander EV joins Toyota’s growing electric lineup as its first three row electric SUV. Whether you are looking for comfort, capability, or a smarter daily drive, this new model is ready to redefine family travel.

Electric Performance and Power Options

The 2027 Highlander EV arrives with two trims: XLE and Limited. The XLE comes with either front wheel drive or all wheel drive, while the Limited version sticks with all wheel drive only. Under the floor, you get two battery options. The standard 77.0 kilowatt hour pack delivers up to 462 kilometers in the front wheel setup, while the larger 95.8 kilowatt hour battery bumps that up to about 515 kilometers.

Power ranges from 221 horsepower in the single motor layout to 338 horsepower with dual motors, backed by 445 newton meters of torque. That is more than enough punch for a three row SUV. Charging is future ready too, with a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port and bidirectional charging that lets you power external gear or your home in a pinch.

Tech Packed Cabin and Safety Suite

Step inside the 2027 Highlander EV and you will find a cabin packed with digital luxury. The dash houses a massive 14 inch touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, paired with a full digital 12.3 inch instrument cluster. The seats are trimmed in soft SofTex leather, with heating and cooling up front and a panoramic glass roof overhead that is the largest Toyota has ever made.

Ambient lighting with 64 color options sets the mood, and the third row folds flat to reveal up to 1,274 liters of cargo space behind the second row. On the safety front, the Highlander gets Toyota Safety Sense 4.0, which includes pre collision warning with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane tracing assist, traffic sign recognition, and proactive driver support. It also features blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and a rear seat reminder system to help keep kids safe.

Production starts in late 2026 at Toyota’s Kentucky plant, with batteries sourced from North Carolina. Pricing is expected to start around 48,000 dollars, positioning it as a strong contender in the electric SUV world as the gas powered Grand Highlander shifts to cover the combustion lineup.
