  • What are the key moments in Chrysler's history?

In the twentieth century, the American car industry consisted of three of the largest car companies in the world, Chrysler, Ford and General Motors. Each of these companies has a family tree that extends to other global manufacturers. For example, Chrysler owns the most famous off-road car maker "Jeep". Today we tell you how Chrysler included Jeep in its family and how France had a role in that.

An overview of the evolution of Chrysler

An overview of the evolution of Chrysler

Chrysler Corporation appeared in the world of the automotive industry in the year 1925, and in 1936 Chrysler became the second largest manufacturer in selling their models in the United States, but that did not last long. In the seventies of the last century, Chrysler faced a severe economic crisis that it did not overcome before the eighties, after which it bought a number of car brands such as Lamborghini, AMC and Jeep to join its family and start the golden age of Chrysler.

In the 1990s, Jeep models allowed the likes of Dodge and Viper to expand Chrysler's horizons, to begin its journey of expansion on the European continent. Which opened the way for the partnership between the American Chrysler and the German Daimler.

DaimlerChrysler's success continued until 2008 with the onset of the economic crisis faced by the world, especially the auto industry, and before Chrysler announced the end of its era, a government loan saved it at the last moments in exchange for its merger with Fiat, to launch together towards a new era of their success.

And up to the present day, Fiat Chrysler FCA has become one of the most powerful companies in the automotive industry in North America and the world at large, and one of the most important factors that help in its prosperity is the Jeep brand and its cars, which have wide popularity among consumers.

Dramatic moments in the history of Chrysler and its ownership of a Jeep

But, certainly, the sequence of events was not so simple and smooth. All of those moments in the history of Chrysler and Jeep lasted for years, and were interspersed with global crises and psychological, strategic, political and economic wars between many parties, and many dramatic moments. There are many questions pertaining to the history of Chrysler, for example, how was it related to the assassination of George Bass, CEO of Renault? How did mutual mistrust emerge at the time between a number of parties? How did espionage and treachery play a role in the history of that American company? All of them are questions that Nabil Mostafa tells us about, with his analysis of all those important moments in the mysteries and secrets of the automotive world.

1974 – 2024: 50 years since production of the first Lamborghini Countach

It was in March of 1974 when mass production of the Countach started at the Lamborghini factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese; a model that entered into legend and remained on the market for a full 16 years. The Countach was the first Lamborghini whose bodywork was made “in-house” with panel-beating carried out by hand, and the first whose interiors were produced by the Lamborghini Upholstery Department, a real revolution which, 50 years on, has become a tradition at Sant’Agata Bolognese. On the occasion of this anniversary, Lamborghini has brought back the very first Countach LP 400 to the production line on which it was created, and where today the Lamborghini Revuelto is produced, for a past and present photo shoot. Furthermore, Lamborghini has made some exclusive images of the Countach line available from its archives.

“We are proud to still be producing our super sports car models in the place where the Countach was created,” commented Ranieri Niccoli, Lamborghini’s Chief Manufacturing Officer. “Production has radically changed since then and there was a marked transformation of many aspects starting with the production of the Countach right through to today's models. Today our production is very different from 1974, but it retains the best aspects and brings together the manual skills of our operators and the best available technologies, giving rise to the so-called Manifattura Lamborghini Next Level. The common denominator between the production of the Countach and our cars today is attention to detail.”
