Mercedes-Benz Unveils RIDEVU: In-Car Movie Magic Powered by Sony Pictures Entertainment

25 Sep 2024
  • How does the RIDEVU service revolutionize in-car entertainment with its multi-screen streaming in Mercedes-Benz vehicles?

In an era where technology seamlessly integrates entertainment with daily life, Mercedes-Benz is taking the in-car experience to new heights with the introduction of RIDEVU, an advanced entertainment service developed in partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment. Designed to deliver a high-quality movie experience, RIDEVU transforms long drives into cinematic adventures, harnessing Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX technology to offer a best-in-class entertainment package.

A New Era of In-Car Entertainment

The RIDEVU service, now available in select markets, brings a wide selection of movies directly to the vehicle's screens, allowing passengers to immerse themselves in entertainment while on the move. What makes RIDEVU truly revolutionary is its ability to stream across up to six different screens within the vehicle or on other connected devices, ensuring that every passenger can enjoy their preferred content simultaneously.

Leveraging the power of Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX Entertainment Package Plus, customers can set up their RIDEVU account via the in-car app, granting access to a vast library of movies that are regularly updated. In addition to included movies, users can rent or purchase the latest blockbusters, ensuring that they always have access to fresh content.

Currently available in Germany, the UK, and Ireland, the RIDEVU app is compatible with models equipped with the second-generation MBUX system, with plans to extend this feature to vehicles featuring the latest-generation MBUX technology in the near future.

Magnus Östberg, Chief Software Officer at Mercedes-Benz AG, highlighted the service’s innovation: “We are excited to collaborate with Sony Pictures Entertainment to offer our customers this first-of-its-kind user experience. Because RIDEVU is developed specifically for in-car entertainment, it takes movie-watching in a Mercedes-Benz to a new level of convenience and simplicity. Not only that, our benchmark, large-format HD displays front and back are ideally suited to viewing the impressive RIDEVU catalogue.”

This collaboration marks a significant leap in in-car entertainment, with Mercedes-Benz capitalizing on its superior display technology and sound systems. Movies are available in HD, ensuring crystal-clear visuals across all screens. For vehicles equipped with the Burmester® high-end 4D and 3D surround sound system, Mercedes-Benz plans to introduce movies in premium audio formats, further enhancing the movie-watching experience.

The RIDEVU app is designed with ease-of-use in mind, providing an intuitive interface that allows passengers to browse and watch their favorite movies or trailers seamlessly. Mercedes-Benz is also planning to expand RIDEVU's functionality to include screen management and synchronization across multiple screens, enabling passengers to share content effortlessly within the vehicle. Additionally, users can cast movies to a TV or download them for offline viewing using their own mobile devices, creating a fluid entertainment experience that transcends the boundaries of the car.

For those who want more flexibility, the RIDEVU app is available for iOS and Android, allowing users to continue enjoying their movie experiences outside the vehicle. With just a few simple clicks, Mercedes-Benz drivers and passengers can bring the silver screen directly into their car, making every journey feel like a trip to the movies.

In Germany, the UK, and Ireland, Mercedes-Benz customers with second-generation MBUX infotainment systems and the MBUX Entertainment Package Plus can find the RIDEVU app directly in their in-car menu. To use the service, customers need to activate the "Video Streaming" service via the Mercedes-Benz App and follow easy steps to set up their RIDEVU account. Once activated, they can enjoy all the features that RIDEVU has to offer, including access to an ever-expanding movie library.

It's important to note that for safety reasons, the driver can only access the full app through the central display when the car is parked or while using the DRIVE PILOT feature.

The partnership between Mercedes-Benz and Sony Pictures Entertainment sets a new standard for in-car entertainment. RIDEVU not only provides a cutting-edge movie experience for passengers but also underscores the potential of automotive infotainment systems as more than just a way to pass time on long drives. As technology continues to evolve, the lines between home entertainment and in-car entertainment will blur even further, creating a world where the journey becomes just as enjoyable as the destination.

With its international rollout underway, Mercedes-Benz is once again proving that innovation is not just about building luxury vehicles, but also about redefining the driving experience itself. Through RIDEVU, the brand is putting movie magic at the fingertips of its customers, ensuring that the open road feels a little more like a night at the cinema.

Nissan has been trialing an innovative automotive paint aimed at helping lower a vehicle’s ambient cabin temperature in summer and reduce the energy usage of the air-conditioning system.

Developed in partnership with Radi-Cool, a specialist in radiative cooling products, the paint incorporates metamaterial, synthetic composite materials with structures that exhibit properties not usually found in nature. The project is part of Nissan’s pursuit of differentiated innovations that empower journeys and to help create a cleaner more sustainable society.
