Mercedes-Benz is taking luxury to a whole new level by turning its flagship sedan into something unexpected: a professional-grade music studio on wheels. This innovation is creating a buzz. The brand recently revealed its new partnership with Dolby and Universal Music Group, showcasing how the Mercedes-Maybach S 680 can replicate the sound experience of a top-tier recording studio. From the acoustic design to Dolby Atmos tech, the entire setup is crafted to make the car feel like a mastering suite. We dive into how it all works and what this could mean for future models.
Mercedes has equipped the Maybach S 680 with a Burmester speaker system enhanced by Dolby Atmos and custom software. This combination allows sound to move in all directions, not just side to side, but also above and below, mimicking the 360-degree audio space of a real studio. To showcase this, music producer Aron Forbes played a live mix from his laptop through the Maybach’s system. The rear seat became the new studio booth.
Floating dots on the Maybach’s screen represented different instruments in a track, moving in real time as Forbes adjusted them. The result? Studio quality sound that responded instantly. Whether it’s the bass vibrating through the floor or the vocals floating through the ceiling, every detail was clear and lifelike.
Dolby Atmos is the magic behind this immersive sound experience. It brings dimension to music, making it feel like instruments and vocals surround the listener from every angle. Mercedes engineers tuned the cabin so precisely that sound doesn’t bounce or get lost. Instead, it wraps around passengers with clarity.
Even artists like Forbes and FINNEAS were surprised by how close the in car sound matched what they hear in studio control rooms. With this system, artists no longer need to revisit the studio for final approvals. They can review, mix, and approve tracks while riding through Riyadh or cruising down Jeddah’s Corniche.
While this setup is currently exclusive to the high end Maybach S 680, Mercedes hinted at bringing it to more models in the future. That means even drivers of more affordable Mercedes vehicles might one day enjoy studio grade sound on their daily commute.
Whether or not you're a music producer, the appeal is universal. Anyone who enjoys listening to music on the road can benefit from this immersive system.
