When it comes to off-roading toys, few companies match the prowess of the Ariel Motor Company. This small British brand, known for its go-anywhere vehicles, has just launched the second generation of its adventurous Nomad, aptly named the Nomad 2. This new model is an impressive evolution, featuring significant upgrades that enhance its off-road and on-road performance.

Power and Performance

The most notable change in the Nomad 2 is found under the hood. While the original Nomad utilized Honda's 2.4-liter K24 engine with a supercharger, the new model boasts a turbocharged 2.3-liter unit from the Ford Focus ST. This engine upgrade delivers a robust 305 horsepower and 382 pound-feet of torque, marking a substantial increase of 70 hp and 161 lb-ft over its predecessor.

The Nomad 2’s powertrain also includes a switchable ECU with three different maps:

Top-spec setup: 305 hp and 382 lb-ft

Mid-range model: 302 hp and 333 lb-ft

Base setup: 260 hp and 284 lb-ft

With such power in a lightweight body, the Nomad 2, weighing just 1,576 pounds, rockets from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 134 mph. Although it's not designed to set records on tracks like the Nurburgring, it promises to be one of the fastest vehicles off the beaten path.

The Nomad 2's dimensions contribute to its off-road capabilities. It features a 94.3-inch wheelbase, and the entire vehicle measures 133.8 inches in length, 73.2 inches in width, and 58.0 inches in height. The two-seater is engineered for tough terrain, boasting a 48-degree approach angle and a 64-degree departure angle. It rides on 16-inch wheels fitted with Yokohama Geolandar A/T 235/70R16 tires and utilizes Eibach coil springs on both axles.

Customization and Additional Features

Ariel offers numerous options for the Nomad 2, allowing buyers to tailor the vehicle to their preferences. These include:

18-inch forged alloys and 16-inch beadlock wheels

Driver-adjustable ABS with selectable road and off-road settings

Ariel's Nomad 2 stands out as a powerful and versatile off-roader, combining significant powertrain upgrades with enhanced structural rigidity and customization options. Whether tackling rugged terrains or cruising on open roads, the Nomad 2 promises an exhilarating experience for off-road enthusiasts. With its blend of performance, durability, and bespoke features, the Nomad 2 continues Ariel's legacy of crafting exceptional off-road vehicles.
