Formula E has maintained its position as global leader for sustainability in sport, topping the Global Sustainability Benchmark in Sport (GSBS) report, the Sustainable Championships Index (SChI™), and the Sustainable Motorsport Index (SMI) once again.

GSBS, the independent sustainability rating organisation, named Formula E top in four of the five award categories for sustainable performance from amongst the world’s leading elite sporting organisations, published in its annual report this week.

The report included a comprehensive analysis of 55 of the most influential organizations in the sports industry, including: FC Barcelona, Manchester City FC, Real Madrid, the Premier League, Formula 1, NFL, WWE, Chicago Bulls, Boston Celtics, NY Yankees, Los Angeles Lakers, and UFC.

The GSBS assessment drew from nearly 500 organisations worldwide invited to participate in the initial assessment – including motorsport, football, tennis, American football, baseball, basketball, ice hockey, handball, and contact sports – representing the highest levels of Corporate, Environmental, Social and Governance (CESG) activity across professional sports. For the full report, visit GSBS Report.

Formula E was awarded Best Total Performance 2023 (jointly with Borussia Dortmund) for the second year running and was ranked highest in Best Corporate Performance, Best Social Performance, and Best Governance Performance.

Formula E also built on further success in the third edition of the SChI™, being crowned the most sustainable global motorsport for the third consecutive year.

The SChI™, an initiative run by Enovation Consulting, supported by University College London, assesses the sustainable performance of 106 motorsport championships. Assessments are carried out against six key markers of sustainability: Certifications, accreditations and awards, environmental criteria, social criteria, engagement and partnerships, and approaches to sustainability.

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship significantly outperformed its competitors, securing four prestigious cups and clinching the leading position in the Index, surpassing the FIA Formula One World Championship.

The SMI is presently the only global performance system that measures publicly disclosed sustainability practices against the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals and the ESG framework in motorsports.

Julia Pallé, Vice President, Sustainability, Formula E said:

“We are proud to keep raising the bar in the global standard for sustainability in sport. Sustainability has been at the core of our championship since its inception, and we are determined to build on our commitment and capabilities year after year.

“Topping the charts once again reinforces that entertainment and sustainability can coexist without compromise. We urge the sports industry to continue working towards the highest level of sustainable operations and to use their influence to engage fans on the collective mission to combat climate change and social progress in line with the UN Sport 4 Climate action framework.”

Six Porsche 911 GT3 R battle for overall victory on the Nordschleife

Six Porsche 911 GT3 R battle for overall victory on the Nordschleife

Porsche’s customer teams and the 911 GT3 R have already given a demonstration of their force in the so-called 'Qualifiers' in mid-April. Falken Motorsports celebrated two victories, while Manthey EMA finished both races on the podium. Moreover, Dinamic GT, Lionspeed GP and Herberth Motorsport will each field one ca. 415 kW (565 PS) GT3 racer from Weissach.

“We began preparing for 2024 straight after last year’s 24-hour race,” said Sebastian Golz, Project Manager Porsche 911 GT3 R.

“We worked hard alongside the manufacturers to understand last year’s tyre damage. After in-depth analyses, we applied the appropriate measures. The start of the 2024 season showed that we did a good job together. Our teams and drivers are happy with the vehicle balance. Now we need to sort out the race procedures and focus on getting through the race without making any mistakes. Lap time performance alone is not the main priority. Teamwork, managing overtaking in a big field of 130 cars, the right tyre choice for different conditions and ensuring that the driver feels good in the car will be the keys to success.”

The commitment of Porsche customer teams goes far beyond participation in the top SP9 class for GT3 vehicles. Thirty-nine other racing cars from the German manufacturer are registered in ten different classes. This means that Porsche has by far the largest contingent of entries in the race. The most popular model is the 911 GT3 Cup, 14 of which will compete in the dedicated Cup2 category.

“Porsche is again clearly the most well-represented brand at the Nürburgring 24-hour race this year. This shows that we continue to enjoy high trust among our partners and customers and that our products are well established on the market,” said Michael Dreiser, Director Sales Porsche Motorsport.

“I’m confident that the six Porsche 911 GT3 R will perform strongly against the tough competition in the top SP9 class. The customer teams are extremely professional with first-class drivers crewing all the cars. Our customers will undoubtedly deliver some gripping racing in other categories too, like in the fiercely competitive Cup2 class with the 911 GT3 Cup and the Cup3 class with the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport.”

FORMULA E AND FIA UNVEIL GEN3 EVO RACE CAR CAPABLE OF 0-60MPH IN JUST 1.82s

Formula E and the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) have today revealed the next generation of race car, the new all-electric GEN3 Evo, capable of 0-60mph in 1.82s.

Leveraging a roster of innovative technical upgrades, the GEN3 Evo unveiled at H.S.H Prince Albert II’s Private Car Collection will debut in Season 11 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship where some of the world’s greatest manufacturers and drivers race wheel-to-wheel in iconic locations around the globe.

Developed by specialists from Formula E and the FIA, the latest GEN3 Evo edition marks a significant leap in electric racing technology, with acceleration 0-60mph 30% faster than a current F1 car, and 36% faster than the GEN3 car.

Capable of accelerating nearly a full second faster than its predecessor – the GEN3 – that was the world’s first race car designed for street racing, it sets an even higher standard in performance, sustainability, and efficiency. The GEN3 Evo serves as a formidable ambassador for the future of motorsport, embodying cutting-edge advancements and a commitment to environmental responsibility.
