  • How is an EV battery replaced in the UAE?
  • How can drivers extend the life of an EV battery in the UAE?

With electric cars gaining popularity across Saudi Arabia and the UAE, one big question is on every driver’s mind: what happens when the battery needs replacing. Since the battery is the heart of an EV and also its most expensive part, buyers want clear answers about how long it lasts, how much it costs to replace, and how to keep it in good shape. Here is everything you need to know in 2025.

Battery Life

Battery Life

Most major brands like Tesla, Hyundai, and Volkswagen design their batteries to last between 8 to 12 years, or from 160,000 up to 200,000 kilometers. The exact lifespan depends on how the car is used, how often it is charged, and the type of charger applied. In the Gulf, high heat can reduce efficiency, but new cooling systems in modern EVs are built to counter this issue.

Replacement Cost

Replacement Cost

Replacing an electric car battery in the region can cost from 15,000 to 25,000 SAR, equal to about 60,000 to 90,000 AED. Luxury models like Tesla can go even higher, sometimes reaching 70,000 AED. Some dealers in Saudi Arabia and the UAE offer extended warranty packages up to 10 years that cover repair or replacement. In some cases, only damaged cells can be swapped instead of the entire battery, cutting the cost by almost 40 percent.

Replacement Process

Replacement Process

The replacement process starts with a full inspection at a certified service center. Specialists then decide whether a few cells or the full pack need changing. If a new pack is required, the technician installs an original factory approved battery and reprograms the car’s Battery Management System. The final step is a full test to make sure performance and safety standards are met.

Battery Care

Battery Care

To get the most from an EV battery, drivers should avoid charging it to 100 percent every day and instead keep the charge between 20 and 80 percent for daily use. Using original chargers with proper capacity also helps. Limiting long exposure to direct sun is important in the Gulf climate. With these steps, the lifespan of the battery can be extended and the replacement delayed for years.
