Electric Car Safety Checklist Every Owner Should Use Before the Next Drive

22 Dec 2025
  • What should I check on my EV battery?
  • What is the fastest EV safety check at home?

Electric cars are showing up everywhere across Arab markets, and that means safety checks can no longer focus on fuel engines alone. High voltage batteries, charging hardware, and software driven systems bring new risks and new routines. A simple, repeatable safety checklist can help owners protect passengers, reduce faults, and spot early warning signs before they turn into costly repairs.

High Voltage Battery Health

Start by watching the car’s own warnings, since the dashboard is often the first place that flags battery issues. Check for any battery related alerts, then review the battery health reading in the vehicle system (state of health). Pay attention to battery cooling, since a coolant leak can impact performance and safety. Notice temperature behavior during driving and charging, because unusual heat can be an early sign that something is off. Treat the battery as the heart of the electric car, and handle any warning signs quickly through a certified service center.

Inspect the charging cable insulation for cracks or damage, then make sure the charge port is clean and dry, with the plug seated firmly during charging. Stick to manufacturer approved chargers to avoid electrical risk. Confirm braking feels smooth with no vibration, and ensure regenerative braking is working properly, since electric cars blend electronic regeneration with mechanical braking. Check brake pads and discs anyway, even if wear is often lower. Monitor tire pressure regularly because many electric cars are heavier due to the battery pack, and confirm tire wear is even while listening for suspension noises or vibration. Keep software updated through official releases, confirm active safety features are functioning, and keep cameras and sensors clean so driver assistance systems stay reliable. In emergencies, know the location of the power cut off function, avoid attempting high voltage repairs yourself, and schedule periodic checks at an approved center.
