Picture this. You're cruising along the highway, your favorite song is playing, and the sunset paints the sky. Suddenly, a low battery warning flashes on your dashboard. You open your charging app, and the nearest station is way too far. Now what? In 2025, more EVs are on the road than ever before, but not every trip goes as planned. This quick guide shows you how to avoid getting stranded and what to do if your EV battery dies in the middle of the road.
The best solution is not getting into that situation in the first place. Unlike gas cars, electric cars take longer to charge and usually have shorter range. That means planning is everything. Before heading out, check for charging stations along your route and top up anytime you have the chance.
As of early 2025, the UAE has over 1,500 public and semi public charging points. Dubai alone has more than 750 under the DEWA Green Charger network. Abu Dhabi has over 400, and the rest are spread across Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Umm Al Quwain.
New plans aim to add 500 more stations by the end of the year, with a long term goal of 10,000 points by 2030. So while coverage is improving, the golden rule remains: charge when you can, not when you must.
If your battery runs out and you're stuck on the road, do not panic. Here's what you need to do:
First, stay safe. If you’re on the highway, try to exit to the nearest safe stop. If that’s not possible, pull over to the right, turn on your hazard lights, and exit the vehicle from the safe side.
Running out of charge doesn’t have to be a disaster. Thanks to the UAE’s smart infrastructure and support services, you can recover quickly. Just don’t leave charging to the last minute, and always have a backup plan.
