Hyundai Confirms the N Vision 74 for Production

02 Sep 2024
  • Will Hyundai stick with the hydrogen fuel cell for the N Vision 74, or is a fully electric powertrain more likely given the current industry trends?

In a bold move that is set to thrill automotive enthusiasts and industry insiders alike, Hyundai has officially announced plans to bring its highly acclaimed N Vision 74 concept car to production. This decision puts to rest years of speculation and rumors, solidifying Hyundai's commitment to innovation and performance in the electric vehicle (EV) sector. The N Vision 74 will be one of 21 new electric models that Hyundai plans to launch by 2030, marking a significant milestone in the company's ambitious roadmap.

Powertrain Speculations: Hydrogen or Full Electric

Powertrain Speculations: Hydrogen or Full Electric

As of now, Hyundai has not disclosed specific details regarding the powertrain or performance specifications of the production-bound N Vision 74. This has led to widespread speculation within the automotive community. The original concept featured a 671-horsepower hydrogen fuel cell, which left many wondering if Hyundai would maintain this unique approach or transition to a fully electric drivetrain for the production model. Given the challenges associated with the mass adoption of hydrogen fuel cell technology, many experts believe that Hyundai may opt for a fully electric powertrain instead.

However, there are reports suggesting that the production version could retain the hydrogen power plant, particularly if the vehicle is produced in extremely limited numbers. Back in December, rumors circulated that Hyundai would manufacture only 100 units of the N Vision 74, with 70 designated for road use and 30 for racing. If these numbers hold true, Hyundai could feasibly retain the hydrogen fuel cell system without facing significant pushback from the market.

Various reports have hinted at the potential power output of the production N Vision 74. One rumor suggests that the car could generate up to 800 horsepower from its hydrogen, dual electric motor powertrain, while another source from The Korean Car Blog claims the figure will be closer to 775 horsepower. Regardless of the final numbers, it is clear that the N Vision 74 will be a force to be reckoned with, promising exhilarating performance that will place it in the upper echelon of high-performance EVs.

While Hyundai has not provided a specific timeline for the N Vision 74's production, the company has confirmed that the car will be released before 2030. According to reports from The Korean Car Blog, production could begin as early as 2026, with research and development already underway at Hyundai's Namyang development center. Given this timeline, it is only a matter of time before camouflaged prototypes start appearing on the road, further fueling anticipation for the car's official debut.
