Engine building has always been part science, part art, but every so often a project comes along that raises the game. Boreham Motorworks is making waves with a new 2.1-liter four-cylinder engine for its modern Ford Escort RS restomod. With a redline at 10,000 rpm and a naturally aspirated design, this powerplant is all about thrilling performance, precision, and pure driving fun.
Boreham’s Ten-K engine gets its name from its wild 10,000 rpm redline. It produces an impressive 325 horsepower from just 2.1 liters, delivering over 155 horsepower per liter. The specs are top notch: billet steel crankshaft, individual throttle bodies, forged connecting rods, and a lightweight build at just 85 kilograms. While the current Porsche 911 GT3 RS engine hits 9,000 rpm, the Ten-K pushes the envelope even further. Power goes through a five speed manual gearbox with a dogleg pattern, keeping the experience as pure as it gets.
Boreham’s modern Escort RS is far from a simple restomod. The car is built almost entirely from new components, including fresh steel body panels and carbon fiber for the hood, trunk, and interior elements to keep weight low. The base version uses an upgraded 1.8-liter four-cylinder, inspired by the original Twin-Cam, now producing 182 horsepower and paired with a four speed manual transmission. Final weight is set at just 800 kilograms, giving the car real agility and sharp response on the road. Only 150 will be made, with prices starting near 390,000 US dollars. For those lucky enough to drive one, it promises an unmatched blend of classic style and modern performance.
