The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon: The Story Behind the Ducks and What's New for 2025

08 Jan 2025
  • What's New for the 2025 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon?
  • Why the Wrangler Rubicon Remains Iconic?

If you've ever come across a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon with a small rubber duck perched on its dashboard, mirror, or hood, you might have wondered what it's all about. This quirky tradition, known as "Duck Duck Jeep," is a grassroots movement that has become a beloved part of the Jeep culture. Interestingly, the 2024 and 2025 Jeep Wrangler models are virtually identical, continuing the legacy of this iconic vehicle without significant changes.

The story begins in 2020 when a Jeep owner named Allison Parliament was visiting family in Canada. After experiencing an unpleasant encounter with a stranger, she decided to spread kindness uniquely. Parliament purchased a rubber duck, wrote a cheerful note on it, and placed it on a fellow Jeep owner's vehicle. This simple act of kindness caught on quickly within the Jeep community. Jeep owners began "ducking" each other's vehicles as a way to share positivity and camaraderie.

The tradition has grown exponentially, with thousands of Jeep owners worldwide participating. Each "duck" is a small gesture that represents the Jeep community's shared values of adventure, inclusivity, and mutual respect. While any Jeep model can be "ducked," the Jeep Wrangler—particularly the rugged Rubicon trim—is often the target, given its iconic status within the brand.

The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon has long been a symbol of off-road capability and adventure. Jeep has introduced several updates to keep this legendary SUV fresh and competitive.

Enhanced Off-Road Capability:  Rubicon now features upgraded Dana 44 HD full-float rear axles, which allow for greater durability and the ability to accommodate larger aftermarket tires. This change is a nod to the Wrangler's off-road enthusiasts who often customize their vehicles for extreme terrains.

New Powertrain Options: Jeep has expanded the powertrain lineup. While the standard 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder and 3.6L V6 engines remain, Jeep now offers an updated plug-in hybrid option, the 4xe, which provides both electric and gas-powered performance. Additionally, the Rubicon 392 with its 6.4L V8 engine continues to deliver unmatched power for those who crave high-performance off-roading.

Interior Upgrades: The Wrangler Rubicon boasts a revamped interior with a focus on technology and comfort. A new 12.3-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment system comes standard, offering faster processing speeds, improved graphics, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The seats have been redesigned for better ergonomics, and premium trims include leather upholstery with contrast stitching.

Exterior Tweaks: Jeep has made subtle but impactful changes to the Wrangler's exterior, featuring a redesigned seven-slot grille, new wheel designs, and additional paint colors, including a striking "Anvil Blue." These changes maintain the Wrangler's iconic look while giving it a modern edge.

Safety Enhancements: Advanced safety features are now standard across all trims, including adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and forward collision warning. These updates make the Wrangler safer for both on-road and off-road adventures.

Factory-Installed Accessories: Jeep has expanded its lineup of factory-installed accessories, including a new Warn winch rated for 8,000 pounds, available directly from the factory on the Rubicon. This addition caters to serious off-roaders who need reliable recovery gear.
