Mercedes Benz has officially confirmed that the legendary G Class lineup will soon welcome a new cabriolet version. The last time fans saw an open top G was back in 2018 with the ultra rare Maybach G650 Landaulet, which became one of the most exclusive SUVs in the world. Now, the brand is preparing to bring back the convertible G Class, and unlike the Maybach limited run, this one is expected to be sold in nearly every global market, including Saudi Arabia.
The 2018 G650 Landaulet was not just another luxury SUV, it was an icon of exclusivity. Mercedes limited production to only 99 units, and while the company never revealed the official price, estimates placed it at around 2 million SAR at the time. It combined the rugged DNA of the Geländewagen with the unmatched refinement of Maybach, featuring a soft top rear cabin for an open air experience unlike any other SUV. Even today, the Landaulet remains a rare collector’s piece that set the stage for the return of a convertible G Class.
Mercedes has not shared an exact launch date yet, but the cabriolet is expected to debut around the 2026 model year following the recent 2025 update to the G Class. Unlike the Landaulet, the upcoming model is being developed as part of the main G Class family rather than an ultra limited edition. This means that Saudi buyers will soon be able to enjoy a convertible version of the G, blending the heritage of off road strength with the appeal of open top luxury driving.
Mercedes confirmed that the new cabriolet will be offered in almost every market where the brand operates, including the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. This wide availability marks a clear shift from the exclusivity of the Maybach Landaulet, as Mercedes looks to appeal to a broader audience of luxury SUV enthusiasts. For Saudi Arabia, it ensures that the cabriolet will be accessible to buyers who want to combine prestige with unique open air capability.
The teaser photo released by Mercedes shows a silhouette that recalls the Landaulet roof style, hinting at a design that respects tradition while embracing modern luxury. Expect the cabriolet to carry forward the same boxy character of the G Class, but with a roof that can open up to let in the desert air. While final specs remain unannounced, it will likely share the latest G Class updates introduced in 2025, ensuring advanced technology, refined interiors, and strong off road capability remain part of the package.
