Audi’s AI:RACE, the high-performance Race Car of Tomorrow, has arrived at the Museum of the Future

05 May 2023

Audi Middle East has brought the brand’s world-renowned AI:RACE prototype model, which embodies the future of high performance, to the Middle East. A ground-breaking prototype, the AI:RACE is a true masterpiece of automotive engineering, and is the embodiment of Audi’s forward-thinking, innovative spirit. Sleek, powerful and eco-friendly, the Audi AI:RACE is an all-electric, high-performance supercar that promises to redefine the future of driving.

The AI:RACE

The AI:RACE

The AI:RACE is the latest of several iconic models and concept cars to be displayed in the Museum of the Future, including the Audi Vision GT, A6 Avant e-tron concept, Skysphere, A:I ME, and most recently the S1 Hoonitron. Part of the successful ongoing strategic partnership between Audi Middle East and the museum, which is currently in its second year, the collaboration aims to showcase the future of mobility in a series of exciting Audi concept models to museum visitors. Additional prototypes and concept cars are also set to be displayed later this year.

Designed for both the race track and road use, the Audi AI:RACE has no complex systems for piloted driving or comfort features that add unnecessary weight. Instead, the driver’s seat and cockpit are integrated into a uniquely shaped, sliding inner monocoque shell, which can be positioned in the centre for solo driving, creating a monoposto-style setup ideal for the racetrack. The steering and pedals use a unique by-wire design, eliminating the need for a mechanical connection.

The Audi AI:RACE boasts a powerful electric drivetrain featuring three motors – one at the front and two centrally located between the rear steering knuckles. These motors provide a combined power output of up to 500 kW, with the ability to temporarily boost to 570 kW for maximum acceleration. The torque output of up to 830 Nm allows the vehicle to reach 0-100 km/h in just over two seconds, making it a true performance machine. One full charge provides a range of over 500 kms in one WLTP cycle, and with the design for charging with a voltage of 800 volts, the battery can be fully charged in only 15 minutes.

Built also for road use with a focus on both maximum efficiency and powerful performance, the AI:RACE brings an option to drivers as they can limit maximum speed in favour of range. The AI:RACE can also be charged cordlessly through Audi Wireless Charging (AWC), where a charging pad with an integral coil is below the car while parked and is connected to the power supply. This creates an alternating magnetic field that yields an alternating voltage to charge the car.

The inspiration from motorsport is also evident throughout the car’s exterior. The AI:RACE is 4.53 metres long, 2 metres wide and just 1.15 metres tall, similar to a classic sports car. It also features a gently sloping roofline from the side, an almost vertical rear window from the back, and a red band of lights that extend across the rear, which borrows from motorsport a highly raised rear diffuser that can be moved mechanically for increased downforce. From the front, the hood of the AI:RACE connects the two accentuated fenders of the car and dips deeply for ideal aerodynamics.

Carsten Bender, Managing Director of Audi Middle East, commented: “Bringing such unique and futuristic Audi models and concept cars to the region is an aim of ours and this is a truly special moment for Audi and for car enthusiasts in the Middle East. The car’s arrival reflects not only the region’s importance to us but also our commitment to the region and the successful partnership we have with the Museum of the Future. The AI:RACE represents Audi's vision of the supercar of the future, combining advanced technology, stunning design, and exhilarating performance. I encourage everyone to come and see the AI:RACE for themselves at the Museum of the Future.”

Porsche plans a trio of powertrains for the Cayenne into the next decade

For more than 20 years, the Cayenne has been characterised by its ability to provide the broad range of qualities between characteristic Porsche driving performance, excellent comfort in everyday driving, and great capability when driving off-road. The future models of the SUV will seamlessly continue this success story, retaining all of the car’s familiar features.

“The Cayenne has always defined the sports car in its segment. In the middle of the decade, the fourth generation will set standards in the segment as an electric SUV,” said Blume, CEO of Porsche AG. At the same time, into the next decade our customers will still be able to choose from a wide range of powerful and efficient combustion and hybrid models.

"The third generation of the Cayenne will be further upgraded and will continue to be offered alongside the fourth, all-electric generation".

The current Cayenne generation, which last year was given one of the most extensive product upgrades in the history of Porsche, will be further developed with major technological investment in the future. Here the developers will be focusing, among other things, on the powertrains, in particular on improving the efficiency of the V8 developed by Porsche and built at the Zuffenhausen engine plant. Extensive technical measures will ensure that the twin-turbo engine is ready to comply with future legislative requirements.
