Aerfal Automotive is bringing back one of Porsche’s most iconic racing cars from the 1960s, the Porsche Carrera GTS (known internally as the 904). Originally produced between 1964 and 1965, the 904 stood out as a lightweight, mid engine racing machine. Now, after sixty years, this legend is reborn with a restomod project blending classic aesthetics with cutting edge engineering and performance.
The new Porsche 904 Flat Eight stays true to its classic proportions while adopting modern enhancements that make it a car of today. French designer Alain Derozier led the styling, preserving the mid engine silhouette and smooth lines that defined the original. Updates include improved cooling vents, sleek LED headlights and taillights, and period inspired wheels that capture the spirit of the 1960s.
The doors now open with a section of the roof for easier access to the cabin. Inside, the car combines a simple analog dashboard with premium leather and titanium accents, keeping the feel authentic yet upgraded. Aerfal chose the Porsche 914 chassis as the base since only 106 original 904 units were built, making authentic frames almost impossible to find. To ensure modern performance, Aerfal partnered with Multimatic to strengthen the chassis, Tuthill for suspension tuning, and equipped the car with Brembo brakes, Michelin tires, and BBS wheels.
The highlight of this project is the resurrection of Porsche’s legendary Flat Eight engine. In partnership with Cosworth, Aerfal has developed a new 4.0 liter air cooled naturally aspirated engine producing around 400 horsepower (up from the original 2.0 liter). This setup captures the original racing spirit while delivering more power and reliability.
Aerfal emphasizes that the goal is not just performance numbers but an experience full of personality, sound, and connection to Porsche’s motorsport heritage. The project is currently at the digital prototype stage, with a physical prototype and pre orders expected soon. Pricing and production timelines have not been announced, but the anticipation among Porsche enthusiasts is already building.
While the Porsche 904 Flat Eight by Aerfal is still in its digital design phase, the company has confirmed that a physical prototype is on the way. Once that milestone is reached, Aerfal plans to open pre orders for enthusiasts who want to secure a piece of reimagined history.
Exact production dates, pricing, and delivery timelines have not yet been revealed, but interest is already growing fast within the classic car and restomod communities. Given the limited nature of the original 904 and the bespoke craftsmanship involved in this revival, the demand is expected to be high.
Fans of Porsche and automotive art should stay tuned to Aerfal’s official channels and industry outlets like motor283 to catch the latest updates. For those dreaming of a modern Porsche with the soul of the 60s, this restomod could be the ultimate collector’s machine.
