The Suzuki Jimny Transforms into a Rally Legend at the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon

03 Jan 2024

The Suzuki Jimny, celebrated for its unwavering off-road capabilities and a dedicated fan base, is about to make waves at the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon with a bold transformation. Japanese tuning firm DAMD, renowned for its expertise in crafting unique body kits for compact Japanese vehicles, has unleashed its creativity on the Jimny. The result? Two striking creations paying homage to legendary European models - the Renault 5 and the iconic Lancia Delta Integrale.

Renault 5 Inspired Jimny

DAMD's interpretation of the Jimny as a French city car draws inspiration from the Renault 5, a classic hatchback with a storied rally history. The Jimny receives headlights reminiscent of the Renault 5 and a radiator grille mirroring the small hatchback's distinctive features. The rally-ready aesthetic is further enhanced with white OZ wheels, and a subtle spoiler at the rear pays homage to the Renault 5’s iconic wing. Adding a touch of humor, a decal proudly declares this Jimny as a non-turbo model, deviating from the original Renault 5 Turbo's turbocharged legacy.

Lancia Delta Integrale Inspired Jimny

For those seeking a more hardcore rally look, DAMD presents a Jimny inspired by the revered Lancia Delta Integrale, a legendary Italian rally hatch. The reimagined Jimny captures the essence of the Delta Integrale with its four circular headlights and yellow fog lamps seamlessly integrated into the bumper. A larger spoiler at the rear completes the transformation, evoking the spirit of the iconic rally machine.

Performance Unchanged

Despite the rally-inspired exterior modifications, the heart of the Suzuki Jimny remains unchanged. In Japan, the compact off-roader boasts a tiny turbocharged 658-cc three-cylinder engine, delivering 63 horsepower and 71 pound-feet of torque. International markets receive a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine generating 101 horsepower and 102 lb-ft of torque. Unfortunately, the Tokyo Auto Salon creations do not feature any upgrades under the hood, maintaining the Jimny's original power figures.

The Suzuki Jimny, a beloved vehicle with a strong off-road pedigree, is set to captivate enthusiasts at the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon with DAMD's inspired creations. Paying homage to the rally legends of the past, the Renault 5 and Lancia Delta Integrale-inspired Jimnys showcase the fusion of Japanese ingenuity with European rally heritage. While the exterior modifications capture the spirit of iconic models, the unchanged powertrain ensures the Jimny's reliability and performance persist, making it a rally legend in its own right.

Zagato's AGTZ Twin Tail: A Removable Rear Bumper Takes Alpine A110 to New Heights

Italian coachbuilder Zagato has once again showcased its expertise in blending elegance with innovation with the launch of the AGTZ Twin Tail, a sports car based on the Alpine A110. What sets this new model apart is its unique and versatile feature – a removable long-tail rear bumper. This design pays homage to the iconic Alpine A220 that raced at Le Mans, adding a touch of nostalgia to a contemporary masterpiece. The AGTZ Twin Tail draws inspiration from classic Zagato builds like the Alfa Romeo TZ1 and the Iso Rivolta GTZ, known for their distinctive rear-end designs. However, the Twin Tail takes this tradition a step further by allowing owners to customize their car's aerodynamics with the option of a long tail for enhanced performance or a shorter tail for everyday driving.
